The AIOS consortium brings together universities and innovation organisations with complementary expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Open Science, digital education, research management and innovation ecosystems. Together, the partners collaborate to develop, pilot, validate and disseminate innovative approaches that support the integration of AI into Open Science practices across Europe.

University of Thessaly

Greece (Coordinator)

Founded in 1984, the University of Thessaly (UTH) is a non-profit public higher education institution located across all four cities of the Thessaly region (Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Karditsa), as well as in Lamia. Officially accredited by the Greek Ministry of Education, UTH consists of 37 departments and 8 schools, serving over 43,000 students through undergraduate, postgraduate, and extracurricular programs. The university is currently ranked 3rd among Greek universities and among the top 800 worldwide according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, reflecting its outstanding performance in research and its strong connection with local communities and businesses. UTH's mission centers on promoting scientific knowledge through research, teaching, and contribution to cultural and economic development.

Within UTH, the MANDEIS Lab (Laboratory of Management, Digital, Research and Educational Skills), based at the Department of Business Administration and directed by Prof. Panos Fitsilis, focuses on developing the managerial, digital, research, and educational competences required by modern enterprises and organisations. It supports teaching, research, and community engagement through innovative methods, open educational programs, and coordination/participation in EU-funded projects such as DevOps, Agile2Learn, CRISIS, SCALe, OpenDCO, and others.

UTH coordinates the overall implementation of the project and ensures the effective management, monitoring and quality assurance of all project activities (WP1). The University of Thessaly also leads the development of the AIOS Training Kit (WP4) and is responsible for the strategic coordination of the consortium, communication among partners and the successful achievement of project objectives and results.

Hellenic Open University - DAISSy

Greece

Hellenic Open University (HOU) is the only Greek State University that offers formal and non-formal lifelong education, in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to more than 40.000 students who are dispersed all over the country. The DAISSy (Dynamic Ambient Intelligent Sociotechnical Systems) Research Group of the HOU’s School of Science and Technology actively contributes towards achieving an inclusive and equal society. Its mission is to place people in the center of a smart technical ambience, thus enabling each and every one to master digital systems so as to achieve personal and societal benefit. Since its establishment, DAISSy has participated in more than 100 national and european projects, in various frameworks and on interdisciplinary themes.

HOU leads WP5, AIOS Certification of the Pilot Cohort, Evaluation, Dissemination and Exploitation. This includes the development of the online learning platform, the delivery of the pilot training and the project’s dissemination activities. HOU also organises the Train-the-Trainer event and contributes to the design of educational resources, learning methodologies and the validation of project results.

University of Bologna 

Italy

The University of Bologna (UBO) is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. Today, it is a dynamic and complex system covering 5 campuses: Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, and Rimini. With 31 departments, 11 of which received a recognition of excellence from the Italian Ministry of University and Research in 2023, the university promotes research and teaching activities. It also includes 24 centres and over one million square metres of space dedicated to education, research and culture, including 24 libraries and 16 museums.

A wide range of degree programmes designed to meet the needs of each individual, ranging from basic to advanced and lifelong learning. The programme catalogue includes 103 first-cycle degree programmes, 142 second-cycle degree programmes and 15 single-cycle degree programmes, 115 of which are international and 92 taught entirely in English, reflecting a strong global vocation (a.y. 2025/26). For those wishing to further their knowledge and specialisation, the University offers 51 PhD programmes, 59 specialisation schools and 92 first- and second-level Professional Master's degrees (a.y. 2024/25). Lifelong learning is supported by numerous opportunities for further education and training, also designed to accompany professional development.

UBO leads WP3, the development of the AIOS Curriculum, and contributes academic expertise in Open Science, research innovation and higher education. The organisation also supports the development of the Open Science Officer framework and the validation of educational resources.

Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU

Norway

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway's largest university for higher education in technology and the natural sciences. NTNU has nine faculties and faculty level groups, 55 departments and more than 120 laboratories, many of which are national resources used both in research and teaching. As of 2025, NTNU has more than 8000 employees and is providing education to more than 40000 students. With an annual turnover of approximately 1 billion Euros, of which 0,2 from external sources, NTNU is recognized for broad cooperation with domestic and international trade and industry. In addition to many National and European research projects, the university hosts six National Centres of Excellence (SFF) and 12 Centres for Research-based Innovation (SFI).

The Department of Computer Science (IDI) conducts research in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, computer architecture, computer graphics, computer security, databases, human computer interaction (HCI), information systems, operating systems, software engineering. The Software Engineering (SE) Research Unit is one of the research groups at the Department of Computer Science (IDI). The research profile of the group covers the field of software engineering, entertainment computing, training and learning technologies and mobile and cooperative applications, as well as in topics that are crucial to the software industry and to society as a whole.

NTNU leads WP2, the development of the AIOS assessment tools (the self-assessment tool and the learning-journey designer), and contributes expertise in digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence and research innovation, including the integration of AI-driven approaches within Open Science practices.

Kharkiv IT Cluster

Ukraine

Kharkiv IT Cluster, an NGO, unites leading Ukrainian IT companies, universities, and authorities to develop the economy, IT business, and overcome common challenges. Active for 10 years, it currently encompasses more than 1000 members, including more than 250 educational partners, doubling its size in the past years. The organization's mission is to develop an ecosystem for technology business, rooted in Kharkiv and expanding globally.

Kharkiv IT Cluster actively supports IT talent development, fosters collaborations with universities, and promotes digital skills, ensuring alignment with industry needs and national development goals. The Cluster focuses on tech education, supporting programs in 50+ Ukrainian universities and organizing career guidance events for 20,000+ students.
